Before we can assist with urgent care flu treatment, we test to ensure it is influenza you are sick with. The most common tests are called “rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDTs)” and “rapid molecular assays.” RIDTs are slightly faster and detect parts of the virus that stimulate your immune response. Rapid molecular assays detect the genetic material of the flu virus. This test is slightly longer but can be more accurate.
If you think your respiratory illness might be influenza and you are experiencing severe fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and/or fatigue, it is important to monitor your symptoms closely and seek urgent care flu treatment when these symptoms intensify. Symptoms can last up to a week, and you should avoid others for the first 24 hours of symptoms. The flu can generally be treated with rest and over-the-counter medication, but it is important to seek medical assistance if symptoms intensify or if you have concerns you would like addressed.
